MLB Rumors: 2 Teams Linked to Free-Agent Danny Duffy

Free-agent starter Danny Duffy has been one of the best southpaws over the course of his career. Last season didn't end like he had hoped and look for the veteran hurler to sign a new contract with a team other than the Los Angeles Dodgers once the lockout is lifted. Let's take a look at two teams who have been linked to Duffy over the course of the past few weeks, even as the lefty recovers from surgery:

Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pirates were absolutely awful last season and finished the year with a 61-101 record. They continue to look for veterans to mix into their lineup and rotation and are interested in adding left-handed pitchers for 2022. Duffy would provided the Pirates a 'cheaper' option they could sign on a multi-year deal and have him eat some innings while they wait for their next influx of young talent. It's expected he will be pitching out of the bullpen for 2022 and return to starting in 2023. The 33-year-old started 12 games for the Kansas City Royals last season, pitching to a 4-3 record with 65 k's in 61innings pitched. His 2.51 ERA was impressive and the Pirates could certainly use this type of production next season.

New York Mets

The Mets are not done by any means and have been linked to a few free-agents including Duffy. They would love for him to come in and compliment the rotation with some middle-to-long relief. The only concern here is the fact Duffy hasn't pitched anywhere else besides Kansas City and has no exposure to the national league. The southpaw made just over $15 million on his last contract and is likely to sign something closer to $7-10-million per season once the lockout is finally over. Expect to see the Mets right there until the end, they would love to get their hands on Duffy as they look to put together a very strong pitching staff for next season.
