Minnesota Twins Sign Infielder
The Minnesota Twins have added to their infield depth, with yet another minor league contract to help out at the shortstop/second base position, signing Elliot Soto to a deal.
The 32-year-old has only played three games at the major league level, all in 2020 with the Los Angeles Angels.
He's had some success at the Triple-A level over the past 11 years, most notably in 2019 with Colorado's affiliate in Albuquerque, batting .305 with an .860 OPS. Overall, he owns a .718 OPS in six years at Triple-A. He's always been a strong with the glove, however.
The Twins have also brought in minor league veterans Tim Beckham and Daniel Robertson recently, to fill out that infield depth. They could be short an infielder or two from their 2021 team, as Andrelton Simmons is a free agent, while 3B Josh Donaldson has been mentioned in numerous trade rumors for some time now. In that scenario, Luis Arraez could slide over to third, and with Polanco at either SS or 2B, there's still an opening to be filled.
Soto will compete with the others at spring training (whenever that might be.)
