Dodgers Sign Veteran Pitcher

The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed Robbie Erlin to a minor league contract.

Erlin played the 2021 season with the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters of the NPB. With them, he sported a 2-3 record, 3.32 ERA, and 33 strikeouts. Overall, he had a decent amount of success in his lone season in Japan. Thus, it isn't surprising to see that he now has a chance to potentially be back in the majors.

Before last season, Erlin spent the last seven in the majors. In 115 appearances between the San Diego Padres, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Atlanta Braves, he had a 13-20 record, 4.85 ERA, and 274 strikeouts. If he's able to claw his way onto the Dodgers' major league roster, he will be a solid depth option for them - as he can be a starter or reliever.

Overall, this move doesn't possess any real risk for the Dodgers, so there's hard to find much to complain about regarding it. It will be interesting to see if Erlin can translate over his success from the NPB back to the majors. Time will tell on that front.
