Detroit Tigers Sign Infielder

The Detroit Tigers have signed Jack Lopez to a minor league contract. With that, he will attend Spring Training with the major league team.

Lopez played for Team USA at the Sumer Olympics last year and landed himself a Silver Medal. He also made his major league debut with the Boston Red Sox shortly after. In seven games with the team, he had two doubles and a .154 batting average. It wasn't the greatest of starts for him, but it also was a very small sample size. Thus, it isn't out of the question to think that he could get another chance this season.

Lopez also played 73 games in the minors this past season. In them, he had four homes, 42 RBIs, a .285 batting average, and 15 stolen bases. It certainly was a solid year for him there, and it may be enough for him to fight for a spot on Detroit's roster.

Lopez has the potential to be a utility player at the major league level. He is capable of playing shortstop, second base, and third base, so the Tigers would have multiple options when it comes to him. It's always convenient to have a player like him, so it will be intriguing to see if he makes the major league roster from here.
