Colorado Rockies Sign Catcher

The Colorado Rockies have signed catcher Carlos Perez to a minor league contract. Due to the fact that he was a minor league free agent, he was permitted to sign a contract during the lockout.

Perez last played in the majors during the 2018 season with the Texas Rangers. In 20 games with the team, he had one home run, three RBIs, and a .143 batting average. In 212 career games between the Los Angeles Angels, Atlanta Braves, and Rangers, he had 11 home runs, 58 RBIs, and .215 batting average.

Although it has been a while since Perez has played in the majors, one has to wonder if he can make Colorado's roster in 2022. With Triple-A Las Vegas last season, he had 31 home runs, 89 RBIs, and a .269 batting average in just 97 games. It was a marvelous campaign for the 31-year-old, so it doesn't seem too out of the question that he could get a chance with the Rockies big-league club.

Time will tell what happens with Perez, but there's no harm in the Rockies signing Perez to this minor league deal. If he continues to hit this well for power, he could have himself a strong season while playing at Coors Field.
