Bryce Harper Has One Solution To Play Ball This Season
National League MVP Bryce Harper has one solution to getting back on the field in 2022. The Philadelphia Phillies star outfielder posted on his Instagram this morning a plea to head across the sea:

He had a Yomiuri Giants photoshopped onto himself, with the caption "Aye @yomiuri.giants you up? Got some time to kill." Then underneath he added "I know you got @borascorp number. Let's talk", referring to his agent Scott Boras.
Harper, of course, is signed to a (very) lengthy contract already with the Phillies. He's going into the 4th year of a 13-year deal that pays him $330M.
So let's say the Tokyo-based team did reach out and offer Harper a spot for 2022... If you're wondering if he can actually go ahead and play in Japan, Ken Rosenthal says the players believe the answer is an unquestionable "YES".

Rosenthal says the "work stoppage guide" distributed to player agents before the lockout expressly noted that the Players Association would challenge any efforts by MLB to block any such move to play in a foreign baseball league. They cite the precedent of many National Hockey League players who, during the 2004-05 work stoppage, played in a variety of international leagues.
Even though Harper posted this with tongue planted firmly in cheek, this is a subject that might very well have to be broached if the start of the MLB season is delayed. While the NL MVP can surely get by, after already collecting well over $100M in his career, some players at the bottom end of the pay scale might be more anxious to not waste a year of baseball earnings.
