Atlanta Braves Manager Comments on Losing Freddie Freeman
The Atlanta Braves are starting to get the sense that prized first baseman Freddie Freeman is likely signing with another baseball club and even their manager Brian Snitker has recently admitted they may need to get used to life without Freeman.
Snitker spoke with the media earlier this week and opened up about the free-agent first baseman, and while he certainly wants him back near the top of his lineup, there's some serious potential that doesn't happen:
Do I want Freddie back? Absolutely. Why wouldn't I? But it may not happen. It's the way business is. But I'm not freaking out about it right now. Last year, we lost player A, and we kept going. We lost player B, C, D, E, F, and we just kept going. It's what we do. I think the last time I talked to Freddie was after we got back to Atlanta (from the last World Series game in Houston) - maybe at the parade. It's hard
Freeman has become the big name on the free-agent market who is drawing a ton of interest from other teams. The New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Dodgers and Texas Rangers have all reached out and it's believed both the Yanks and Blue Jays have made very serious offers for Freeman's services.
Last season the 32-year-old was in beast mode the entire year and turned it up even more come postseason. He slashed a line of .304/.420/.625 during the playoffs and hit five HR and drove in 11 RBI in 16 postseason games. Freeman has spent over a decade in Atlanta and it's the only franchise he's ever known. However, money talks and so does opportunity and new challenges so Braves' fans need to get comfortable with the fact one of their best players and franchise legends may be moving on once the lockout is complete.
