Adrian Gonzalez Announces Retirement

Adrian Gonzalez officially announced his retirement from professional baseball through a post on his Instagram.

Gonzalez has not appeared in the majors since the 2018 season but played this past season with the Mariachis de Guadalajara in the Mexican League. Before then, he also played for Mexico during the 2020 Summer Olympics. Needless to say, he had still been quite active, but now, he will finally be calling it a career.

Gonzalez had a very good major league career that deserves a lot of praise. In 1,929 games between the Texas Rangers, San Diego Padres, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, and New York Mets, he had 317 home runs, 1,202 RBIs, and a .287 career batting average. With that, he was a five-time All-Star, four-time Gold Glove Award winner, and two-time Silver Slugger Award winner.

With numbers like these, it's fair to say that Gonzalez lived up to his first-overall pick status. It's just crazy to think that he never ended up playing a game with the Marlins, as they of course were the ones who selected him.
