Washington Nationals Sign Outfielder

The Washington Nationals have signed Rusney Castillo to a minor-league contract.

Castillo is remembered most for signing a massive seven-year, $72.5 million contract with the Boston Red Sox back in 2014. Yet, the 34-year-old last played at the major-league level during the 2016 season. From there, he was a mainstay in the minors. In 99 career games with Boston, he had seven home runs, 35 RBIs, and a .262 batting average. Now, he will be aiming to play for the Nationals in 2022.

Castillo played the past season with the Tohoku Rakuten Goldean Eagles of NPB. In 33 contests with the team, he had one home run, three RBIs, and a .225 batting average.

When looking at Washington's roster right now, it doesn't seem out of the question that he could fight for a depth spot with them. Perhaps Castillo had this in mind when he signed with him. Let's see if he's able to land himself a spot with them.
