Top 4 Free Agent Pitchers When Lockout Ends

While names like Carlos Correa, Freddie Freeman and Kris Bryant will dominate the free agent market when baseball business finally resumes, there are still some notable arms available for teams looking to replenish their pitching staffs.

Let's have a look at the Top 4 pitchers still on the free agent market:

1. Kenley Jansen

The longtime Los Angeles Dodgers' closer still had it in 2021, posting 38 saves with a 2.22 ERA in his 12th year in Dodger blue. He's 34 now, but still seems to have some heat in the tank, and that was aided by a newfound curveball added to the mix. If the Dodgers don't re-sign him, MLB insider Jim Bowden expects the Toronto Blue Jays, Philadelphia Phillies and Miami Marlins to compete for his services.

2. Carlos Rodon

The 29-year-old had an All-Star season for the Chicago White Sox, which included throwing a no-hitter, and finishing 5th in AL Cy Young voting. The caveat here is that his shoulder began bothering him in August, and his performance down the stretch and in the playoffs did not match up with the rest of his season. It's a high risk, high-reward type of scenario for any team signing Rodon.

3. Clayton Kershaw

2021 was the first time in his career he had to shut his season early due to an injury. His arm problems led him to receive a PRP injection after the season. It's also rumored that he may wait until he's fully healthy before deciding on his future.

The 33-year-old has spent his entire career with the Dodgers, and although his hometown Texas Rangers are thought to be in pursuit, it would be a surprise if he didn't end his career in LA.

4. Yusei Kikuchi

Kikucki's 2021 was a tale of two seasons. The 30-year-old had an All-Star first half, with a 3.48 ERA and 1.09 WHIP, showing lots of promise as a crafty lefty. But he cratered in the 2nd half, with a 5.98 ERA and 1.70 WHIP. Teams willing to bet on his 1st half being more the norm could get a pitcher with upside.

As collective bargaining talks continue, one hopes we're getting a bit closer to the resumption of business, and the free agent frenzy can resume.
