MLB Rumors: Texas Rangers and Cincinnati Reds Discussing Big Trade
Before the MLB lockout there were several reports regarding the Texas Rangers and Cincinnati Reds getting close to a deal which is expected to be revisited in the coming weeks. The Rangers have switched their narrative this offseason and are looking to continue adding talent to their roster. The Reds are in a complete opposite state and are involved in trade talks with several teams as they look to shed payroll.
The Rangers are interested in some of the veteran pitching the Reds have to offer and have discussed both Sonny Gray and Luis Castillo, both of who are available at the right price. Another name that's been discussed between the two clubs is believed to be Tyler Mahle, who makes up the third piece of the Reds trio who other teams are trying to get their hands on.
Reds are still fielding interest in Luis Castillo, Tyler Mahle and Sonny Gray. Chance for a trade today.

Sources: #Rangers still working to upgrade their starting rotation after the big signings of Semien and Seager. They've inquired to the #Reds about trading for one of their starting pitchers (Luis Castillo, Sonny Gray, or Tyler Mahle). @MLB @MLBNetwork

After a season full of struggle you can't blame the Rangers for trying to re-tool. They went 60-102 in 2021 and anything but the playoff picture will be a disappointment. The team ranked 23rd in the league in team ERA and gave up the fifth most home runs. Add that to finishing near the bottom of the league in strike outs and we're certainly curious why the Rangers didn't emphasis adding pitching before they spent hundreds of millions of dollars on Marcus Semien and Corey Seager. They did already sign Jon Gray from the Colorado Rockies, so it hasn't all been hitter focused.
Get ready Rangers fans, management is trying to do whatever they can to turn around the franchise and now is the time. They've signed some big names and continue to discuss multiple trades including the mentioned names with the Reds. Opening day in Arlington should be a lot of fun.
