MLB Rumors: Several Tampa Bay Rays Players Didn't Want to Play in Montreal

The MLB recently confirmed due to the pandemic the Tampa Bay Rays will not be playing half of their home games in Montreal in the 2028 season. The deal was supposed to be in place for a split-city plan as the Rays' lease is up on their current diamond Tropicana Field in 2027.

While not many of the Rays current players would be on the 2028 roster, starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow didn't hold back when recently asked about it by the media. Here's what Glasnow said to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times:

I think most players were, like, not agreeing. They were like, 'I really have to move that much?' The details were going to be ironed out, and I think spring training was going to be in the Tampa Bay area, so it would really only be you'd have to move twice a year. But in terms of free agents and stuff, the idea of having to go across to another country in the middle of the season is a bit rough

Rays ownership is now in a tough spot as attendance continues to be an issue and the team is losing money season after season. Montreal has been on the MLB's radar for a few years now as a serious relocation option for the franchise. At this time owner Stuart Sternberg says he does not intend to sell the club or relocate the Rays to Montreal or any other city for that matter.
