MLB Rumors: 2 Teams Named Favorites to Sign Anthony Rizzo

Anthony Rizzo is one of the best first baseman in the game and after a long tenure with the Chicago Cubs, found himself traded to the New York Yankees last season. While Rizzo enjoyed every moment, there's open to anything this offseason and has yet to sign on the dotted line. When the MLB resumes operations, look for the veteran to sign on the dotted line with one of these two teams.

New York Yankees

The Yankees should still be considered the top dog as they have the financial resources to outbid any other team and still have a tremendous amount of interest in bringing back Rizzo. While it wasn't exactly elite production, the 32-year-old appeared in 49 games in the Bronx and clubbed eight HR and collected 21 RBI. He brings a ton to the table as he's an elite defender and one of the best teammates you could ever ask for. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman had this to say about bringing back Rizzo:
He obviously was really good for us, we feel, both on the offensive side and the defensive side, and the leadership side. So he brings a lot of good things to the table

Atlanta Braves

The Braves have a number of different lines in the water because the Freddie Freeman contract talks are not going well. We reported earlier this week Atlanta was discussing a deal with the Oakland A's before the lockout and Rizzo is certainly linked to these talks. Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic mentioned recently while Rizzo loved his time in New York, the Braves are a real contender to get him signed and if Freeman walks, look for a deal shortly after.

At this point the Chicago Cubs aren't mentioned as a potential destination as the sense from management is they are looking to build a new core and are heading in another direction. Of course that could change and of all the ex-Cubs, Rizzo seems the most likely to return.
