MLB Rumors: 2 AL West Players Who Could Be Traded
The offseason moves were happening fast and furious before the lockout arrived and now many of the experts across the league are predicting a flurry of transactions once the MLB is back to business. In our latest segment we'll hop around to each division and showcase a couple of players who could be traded next by their ball club.
American League West
Los Angeles Angels: Justin Upton: The Angels have one thing on their mind before spring training, upgrade their pitching staff. If the team moves Upton, they'll likely have to include a couple of sweeteners as the aging outfielder is making $28 million in 2022 and hasn't performed up to his contract. Last season in hit 17 HR and drove in 41 runners. The problem is the Angels don't have a ton of players worthy of moving and are going to have to dangle Upton and be open with other teams that they are willing to eat most of his contract. We'll see how it all plays out in California, but expect the team's rotation to look vastly different in 2022.
Oakland A's: Chris Bassitt: The Athletic's are open for business and were well engaged in trade talks before the lockout was put into place. The team is expected to move a number of players and Bassitt is likely going to be included. He joins teammates such as Matt Olson, Sean Manaea, Frankie Montas and Sean Murphy who have all been made available. Bassitt is expected to make roughly $9 million in 2022 and his ERA of 3.15 and WHIP of 1.06 stacks up against some of the league's best pitchers. There certainly will be a ton of trade interest from other teams. Let's not forget he was a dominant pitcher who was on his way to Cy Young votes before he was struck in the face with a line drive last August.
