Kansas City Royals Sign Pitcher

The Kansas City Royals have signed reliever Sam Freeman to a minor league contract.

Freeman is looking to get back to the majors for the first time since the 2020 campaign. In seven appearances with the Washington Nationals that season, he has a 0-0 record, 1.80 ERA, and six strikeouts. Although he had limited appearances, he looked very solid during them. The potential to pitch in the majors again seems to still be there.

Freeman has nine seasons of major league experience under his belt, too. In 271 games between the St. Louis Cardinals, Texas Rangers, Milwaukee Brewers, Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Angels, and Nationals, he has an 8-7 record, 3.88 ERA, and 232 strikeouts. This kind of experience could make the Royals be open to giving him a chance on the roster. This is especially true if he impresses at Spring Training or in the minors at the start of the year.

The Royals aren't a powerhouse, so we could see Freeman end up making their big league roster for the start of the 2022 season. Alas, we will have to wait and see what occurs.
