Boston Red Sox Sign Pitcher

The Boston Red Sox have added to their pitching depth, as they have signed Taylor Cole to a minor-league contract. With that, he has been invited to participate in Spring Training with the big-league club.

Cole will be looking to pitch at the major-league level for the first time since the 2019 season when he did with the Los Angeles Angels. In 57 career appearances over three seasons between the Toronto Blue Jays and Angels, he has a 7-6 record, 4.97 ERA, and 90 strikeouts. The 2018 season is one that was particularly interesting, however, as he had a 4-2 record and solid 2.75 ERA with the Angels. Perhaps he can tap back into his previous form in 2022 with Boston.

Cole has dealt with a lot of injury trouble over these last few years. In fact, he hadn't pitched at any level since 2019 until this year in the Dominican Winter League. Over 8 2/3 innings pitched, he looked very solid and had a 2.08 ERA. Perhaps this is what ended up leading the Sox to give him a chance on a minor-league pact.

Overall, this could be a nice little low-risk, high-reward kind of signing for the Red Sox. He has experience as both a relief pitcher and starter, too. Let's see if he's able to impress enough to earn himself a job with Boston come springtime.
