MLB Rumors: Yankees Interested In Athletics Star
It's no secret that the New York Yankees are on the hunt for a shortstop. They struck out on multiple top ones during the offseason. Although Carlos Correa and Trevor Story are still available, the Yankees are also considering Oakland Athletics third baseman Matt Chapman for the spot, according to Buster Olney.
Chapman has very little experience at shortstop over his MLB career. However, he may have the skill to make the transition, as he's known for being an excellent fielder. Keep in mind, he has three Gold Glove Awards under his belt - with his most recent win coming in 2021.
Just because the Yankees are considering this, it doesn't mean it will automatically come into fruition when the lockout is over. However, regardless of what position, he would be a very welcomed addition for the Yankees. In 573 career games with the A's, he has 111 home runs, 296 RBIs and a .243 batting average. With that, he was an All-Star in 2019.
Nevertheless, it would be interesting to see Chapman playing shortstop for the Yankees. Let's see if this is what they decide to do.
