Toronto Blue Jays Reject Milwaukee Brewers Trade Offer
The Milwaukee Brewers completed a deal recently with the Boston Red Sox, but that was after they couldn't come to an agreement with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Reports have the Blue Jays and Brewers talked a trade regarding a swap of Randal Grichuk for Jackie Bradley Jr, but couldn't come to terms. Bradley Jr was then dealt back to the Red Sox in a multi-player trade.
JBJ would have been an interesting fit for the Blue Jays as he struggled tremendously in 2021 for the Brewers. The 31-year-old who can play all three outfield positions slashed .163/.236/.261 in Milwaukee including six HR in 134 games. This move had some financial impacts as well as Bradley is in the final season of his contract, paying him $9.5 million.
Meanwhile Grichuk has two seasons left on his deal, paying him $9.3 million. The move would have freed Toronto of over $9 million in 2023 and considering they need to extend both Vladimir Guerrero Jr and Bo Bichette to long-term contracts.
Grichuk had a fine season for the Blue Jays after getting off to a slow start. The 30-year-old hit 22 HR and knocked in 81 runs. He's hit 20 dingers in five different seasons, and looks to continue his production in 2022.
While the trade talk is quiet now with the lockout, expect to see both of these teams making trades once the league gets back into business.
