Kyle Seager Announces His Retirement
The free agent market has lost one of its biggest remaining names, as Kyle Seager has announced his retirement.
This is a bit surprising to hear, as Seager just had a strong season in 2021. In 159 games, he set career-highs with 35 home runs and 101 RBIs. However, he did have more trouble hitting for contact, as he had a .212 batting average. When looking at his power numbers, though, it was truly a special campaign for him.
It seemed possible that Kyle would end up signing with the Texas Rangers to play with his brother, Corey. It would have been amazing to the family duo on the same team, but alas, that dream will not be coming into fruition. Still, though, it's also understandable why the veteran has called it quits.
In 1,480 career games with the Seattle Mariners, Seager had 242 home runs, 807 RBIs and a .251 batting average. With that, he also was an All-Star and won a Gold Glove Award in 2014. Although he never seemed to get the recognition he deserved, it was clearly a very strong career for the third baseman.
