Giants Bolster Pitching Staff Once Again
The San Francisco Giants came into the offseason with 4 open slots in their starting rotation due to free agency, and were determined to work quickly to rebuild the staff. Wednesday, they re-signed another arm, by inking lefty Alex Wood to a 2-year, $25M contract.

After a disastrous 2020 season in which he posted a 6.39 ERA for the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Giants brought in Wood for 2021 on a team-friendly $3M deal. It paid off big-time for both parties. Wood went 10-4 with a 3.83 ERA to help the Giants to their 107-win season.
Now, Wood gets the pay-off, as he'll earn $12.5M each of the next two seasons.
The 31-year-old had an impressive start to his career, through six seasons with the Atlanta Braves and the Dodgers. But injuries derailed his 2019 and 2020 seasons.
He was able to bounce back in '21 by starting 26 games, and being a key cog in the Giants' impressive starting staff.
The move to re-sign Wood comes a week after the Giants re-signed another key pitcher, Anthony DeSclafani, to a 3-year, $36M deal.
