3 Free Agent Starters The Dodgers Should Pursue
This offseason hasn't been a very good one for the Los Angeles Dodgers. At this time, they already have lost Max Scherzer (New York Mets) and Corey Seager (Texas Rangers). With that, Clayton Kershaw is currently a free agent and could very well sign elsewhere, too. If that occurs, the Dodgers will then be without two elite pitchers. Yet, even if Kershaw does decide to return, it still wouldn't hurt for them to pursue one more starter once the lockout is over. Here are three options they should consider.
Carlos Rodon: Carlos Rodon should certainly grab Los Angeles' attention. The 2021 season was a career-best for the 28-year-old, as he had a 13-5 record, 2.37 ERA and 185 strikeouts. With that, he understandably was an All-Star. If the Dodgers still want to be contenders, this is the kind of pitcher they should be calling.
Zack Greinke: When seeing as how so many top pitchers have already been signed this offseason, a Zack Greinke reunion may not be out of the question. The 38-year-old pitched from 2013 to 2015 with the team, where he was an All-Star twice. In 30 games last season, he had an 11-6 record and 4.16 ERA. Although he isn't the dominant star he once was, he still would be a solid option for the middle of the rotation.
Yusei Kikuchi: Yusei Kikuchi was an All-Star in 2021, but did cool off noticeably as the season continued. On the year, he sported a 7-9 record, 4.41 ERA and had 163 strikeouts. When he is at his best, he is a very effective pitcher, so perhaps the Dodgers could sign him to a one or two-year contract.
