Texas Rangers Sign Veteran Outfielder
The Texas Rangers have signed veteran outfielder Kole Calhoun to a one-year, $5.2 million contract. It also comes with a club option for the 2023 season.
Calhoun played the 2021 season with the Arizona Diamondbacks. In 51 games, he had five home runs, 17 RBIs and a .235 batting average. He ended up missing a good amount of time due to injuries.Texas' deal with Kole Calhoun is a one-year, $5.2 million pact with an option for 2023, per source. The Rangers have spent $236.2 million today for Marcus Semien, Jon Gray and Calhoun, making it clear that they plan to be a contender in the AL West in 2022.

During the 2020 season, Calhoun was on an absolute tear when it came to his power. In just 54 games, he had 16 home runs, 40 RBIs and a .226 batting average. Over the course of his career, he has had other moments of strong power, as evidenced by his 33 home run campaign in 2019 with the Angels.
With that, Calhoun also has been noted for his excellent fielding ability. He does have a Gold Glove Award on his resume to accurately represent that.
This is a nice low-risk, high-reward kind of contract. If Calhoun can bounce back a bit more this season, he could be a very solid option for the Rangers.
In 1,071 career games between the Angels and Diamondbacks, Calhoun has 161 home runs, 508 RBIs and a .248 batting average.
