Report: Blue Jays Not Nearly Finished, Eyeing Another Free-Agent SP
The Toronto Blue Jays were busy on Tuesday as they signed starter Jose Berrios to a massive seven-year extension. Turns out they continue to have dialogue with the likes of Robbie Ray, Steven Matz and Marcus Semien and also have held discussions with a surprising free agent.
Even after the José BerrÃos extension, the #BlueJays are working diligently to upgrade their rotation. They continue to talk with their own free agents -- Ray and Matz -- as well as Kevin Gausman, among others. They've also spoken with the #Marlins on their starters. @MLBNetwork

Kevin Gausman is a bit of a risk as he had himself a break out season in 2021 with the San Francisco Giants after a few seasons of struggle. Last year he went 14-6 with a 2.81 ERA and struck out 227 batters in 192 innings. His most wins before last season was 11 in a year and that was back over four years ago.
Another thing to watch out for is the trade talks with the Miami Marlins that does not appear to be going away any time soon. The Jays have a number of prospects and catcher Alejandro Kirk who they are dangling to other teams for a young starter and the Marlins are very interested in Kirk.
As for Gausman, there's lots of interest in the 30-year-old and when your throw splitters like this, can you really blame teams? Let's just see if the interest is so high that Toronto overpays. Considering the amount of decisions they have on the horizon that involve mega-extensions, it's not likely they outspend another team on Gausman's services.
