Philadelphia Phillies Add Catcher From Houston Astros
The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired catcher Garrett Stubbs from the Houston Astros in exchange for Logan Cerny.
Stubbs looks like a candidate to be Philadelphia's new backup catcher. In 18 games this season with the Astros, he had zero home runs, 3 RBIs and a .176 batting average. Over three total seasons with Houston, he had six RBIs and a .182 batting average in 51 games.
However, Stubbs' production at the plate in the minors does provide some optimism about his future. In 207 games in Triple-A over four seasons, he has 13 home runs, 88 RBIs and a solid .272 batting average. Perhaps the 28-year-old can now carry over that kind of production to the Phillies.
As for Cerny, he just completed his collegiate career at Troy University. In 115 games with the school, the outfielder had 26 home runs, 96 RBIs and a .291 batting average. He also played in 13 minor-league games this year. In them he had zero home runs, two RBIs and a .200 batting average.
