Oakland Athletics And Tampa Bay Rays Strike A Deal
Although the Oakland Athletics are openly sellers at this juncture, that doesn't mean they aren't open to adding new players to the roster. This is made apparent by the fact that they have acquired pitcher Brent Honeywell from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for cash.
This is a low-risk move for the Athletics and one that could also benefit them. Honeywell was once viewed as a top-of-the-line pitching prospect, as he was deemed as one of Baseball America's top 100 prospects for five straight seasons, ending in 2020. If he can remain healthy from here, perhaps he can progress more and land himself a permanent spot on the A's.
Honeywell made his MLB debut this season with the Rays. In three games, he had a 0-0 record, 8.31 ERA and four strikeouts. With the Durham Bulls, he also had a 5-4 record and 3.97 ERA.
We will have to wait and see if Honeywell can thrive from here with the A's. They've done it with other players in the past, so maybe he's next.
