Alcantara may have had a 9-15 record during the 2021 season, but he surely did his part to keep the Marlins in games. Although his loss total was very high, he also had a solid 3.19 ERA and career-high 201 strikeouts.Miami Marlins are closing in on a 5 year contract extension with Pitcher Sandy Alcantara. With Alcantara still only being 26 years old, he absolutely has the potential to improve even more from here. During the 2019 season, he made the All-Star Game, too. Why should he not be able to do the same thing from here?
If Alcantara is truly guaranteed a little more than $11 million per season, that's a very affordable salary for a pitcher of his skill. The Marlins should feel very happy about that once it's officially finalized.
In five MLB seasons between the St. Louis Cardinals and Marlins, Alcantara has a 20-34 record, 3.49 ERA and 431 career strikeouts.
