Marlins Acquire All-Star Infielder From Rays

The Miami Marlins are continuing to strengthen their roster, they have acquired infielder Joey Wendle from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for prospect outfielder Kameron Misner.

The 2021 season was a magnificent one for Wendle, as he made it to his first All-Star Game. In 136 games with Tampa Bay, he had 11 home runs, 54 RBIs and a .265 batting average.

Wendle will be such a useful player for the Marlins to have, as he can play second base, third base and shortstop if needed. Therefore, they have multiple options when it comes to him and that certainly comes in handy. Furthermore, he also is under team control until 2024, which is a major plus.

This is another very good move for the Marlins and it shows that they are at least trying to take that next step. Derek Jeter stayed true with his promise about Miami being aggressive this offseason.

The Rays should be happy to have Misner though, too. The youngster not only is an outfielder, but also can be moved to first base. In 102 games split between Single-A and Double-A this season, he had 12 home runs, 59 RBIs and a .253 batting average. He also is known for having a nice mix of power, defense and speed, so he could end up being a good player for them later down the road.
