Houston Astros in Market for Only 'Elite' Shortstops
The Houston Astros have made one thing clear from the top down, whoever is playing shortstop for the ball club in 2022, will be an elite talent.
The team has veteran Carlos Correa who has manned the position for several years now but the 27-year-old has hit the open market and word is the New York Yankees are backing up the Brinks truck with an offer.
Ownership of the Astros planned on making a solid offer to Correa after the season and presented it his way, unfortunately for the team it was declined immediately. The deal was reportedly worth $160 million over five years. Correa is believed to be seeking a deal north of $340 million, as Francisco Lindor signed a deal back in April with the New York Mets for $341 million.
While Correa is certainly feeling out his options, there's a chance Houston circles back and makes another bigger offer. They also have their eyes on some other big names including Corey Seager, Trevor Story and Marcus Semien.
Semien is an intriguing option after shattering records last season with his production as a second basemen for the Toronto Blue Jays. The free agent has made it clear he prefers to go back to his natural position of short stop moving forward. The Blue Jays have made it clear to Semien, they are not moving Bo Bichette from there.
Keep an eye on the Astros, they have brought back Justin Verlander and are looking to try and come to terms with Correa. If they can't, don't worry Astros fans, management is going to move quick.
