We have our first big free agent signing of the offseason. The Detroit Tigers have signed pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez to a five-year, $77 million. It also has an opt-out after year two and carries a no-trade clause.
Source confirms: Five years for at least $77M, as @JeffPassan and @JonHeyman said. Opt-out after year two, per Heyman. https://t.co/eXq21YAlfK

We recently reported that the Tigers were one of the teams who were heavily interested in Rodriguez, so it's not surprising that he now has ended up there. Furthermore, it's well-known that the Tigers are planning to spend a lot of money this offseason to try to become contenders again. With the Rodriguez signing, it's clear that they are staying true to their word.Deal also includes no-trade clause of some kind and performance bonuses. https://t.co/ooikBFzibw

After missing the entirety of the 2020 season due to Myocarditis, Rodriguez pitched the entire 2021 campaign with the Boston Red Sox. In 32 starts, he had a 13-8 record and 4.74 ERA. Although his ERA was higher than normal, it also is important to note that he pitched very well as the season progressed. He seemed to inch closer to his 2019 form, which of course, led him to a 19-6 record back then.
Overall, this is a great day for Eduardo. Just one year ago, his future was questionable. Now, the 28-year-old has landed himself a huge payday on his new five-year deal. However, the Tigers certainly are feeling happy right now, too.
Lastly, we predicted Rodriguez would get five years and he received just that.
