Cleveland Guardians Sign Veteran Catcher
The Cleveland Guardians have signed catcher Sandy Leon to a minor-league contract. With it, he also has been invited to Spring Training with the big-league club.
It would not be surprising at all to see Leon end up making Cleveland's roster, though. Over his 10-year MLB career, he's worked well as a backup catcher and he should be able to continue that again with the Guardians. Two Cleveland Guardians moves:

*Signed catcher Sandy León to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training. You remember him.
*Traded J.C. Mejía to the Brewers for a player to be named later or cash.
In 83 games last season with the Miami Marlins, Leon had four home runs, 14 RBIs and a .183 batting average. Leon's never been the best of hitters, but he thrives when it comes to his fielding ability. This could ultimately be what allows him to squeak his way on the MLB roster.
Leon is also a familiar face with Cleveland, as he just played the 2020 campaign with them. In 25 games during the shortened season, he had two home runs, four RBIs and a .136 batting average.
In 500 career games with the Washington Nationals, Boston Red Sox, Cleveland and Marlins, Leon has 31 home runs, 141 RBIs and a .212 batting average.
