Brewers Outfielder Finished in Milwaukee
Avisail Garcia has decided to opt out of his current contract with the Milwaukee Brewers, making him a free agent next week.
Jon Heyman of MLB Network was first to report the news on Thursday. Garcia will be one of the most coveted outfielders on the open market and will certainly be in line for a raise from the $12 million he was headed to make in 2022.
Some are surprised by the news but it's worth pointing out that Garcia had made enough plate appearances in 2021 to turn his club option into a mutual option, which has since been terminated.
At 30 years old, Garcia still has some fine baseball in front of him. Last season he managed a career-best 29 dingers with 86 RBI over 135 games. The decade long vet has spent time in Milwaukee, along with the Detroit Tigers, Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Rays.
While it's a never say never situation, the Brewers don't have a ton of money to spend this winter and have some talented youngsters in the pipeline waiting for big league at bats. At this point, all signs are pointing to Garcia being finished in Milwaukee.
