Boston Red Sox Sign Veteran Pitcher
The Boston Red Sox have signed veteran pitcher Michael Wacha to a one-year contract.
Wacha played last season with the Tampa Bay Rays and was primarily utilized in the bottom half of the team's rotation. In 29 games, he had a 3-5 record, 5.05 ERA and 121 strikeouts.Right-hander Michael Wacha and the Boston Red Sox are finalizing a one-year contract, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN. Wacha, 30, was solid in a starting role for Tampa Bay last season and is expected to bring depth to the Red Sox’s rotation. Deal is pending a physical.

During the beginning stages of his career, Wacha had a good amount of success. In 2013, he was named NLCS MVP with the St. Louis Cardinals. With that, he also was an All-Star during the 2015 season. He would end that year with a 17-7 record and 3.38 ERA. He also had himself a 12-win campaign during the 2017 season, too.
However, these last three seasons have not treated Wacha kindly and he will be looking to regroup with the Red Sox. The 30-year-old isn't the big splash that Boston fans were hoping for, but he could be a decent option for the fifth starter spot. However, if the Red Sox want to build off of the success they had in 2021, this shouldn't their only move.
