Boston Red Sox Interested In Star Infielder

The Boston Red Sox are one of the teams who are currently pursuing All-Star infielder Javier Baez, according to Jon Heyman.

This is a very interesting development, as it shows that the Red Sox are open to spending more money this offseason. It ultimately makes sense for them to add another star to the roster right now, too. They surprisingly ended the year with a 92-70 record and made it to the ALCS.

If the Red Sox were to sign Baez, he could work well as their new second baseman. They also could elect to the play the 28-year-old to shortstop, while moving star Xander Bogaerts to second. Simply put, the Red Sox would have multiple options to go with.

In 138 games this season between the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets, Baez had 31 home runs, 87 RBIs and a .265 batting average.

However, Baez picked his play up after being dealt to the Mets. In 47 games there, he had a .299 batting average and nine home runs. His discipline at the plate was significantly better as well. He had 13 of his 28 walks during the season with them. With this strong finish to the season, he surely enhanced his overall value on the market.

We will have to wait and see if the Red Sox end up winning the Baez sweepstakes.
