3 Potential Landing Spots For SP Frankie Montas
Another veteran pitcher who the Oakland Athletics are currently shopping is Frankie Montas. The 28-year-old is coming off of a very solid season, so his trade value is certainly high. In 32 starts, he had a 13-9 record, 3.37 ERA and a career-high 207 strike outs. He also isn't eligible to become an unrestricted free agent until 2024, so a team who adds him would have him under control for two more seasons. That's a very good bonus to have.
Here are three teams who should be calling the A's about him.
San Francisco Giants: The San Francisco Giants will be looking to add pitchers this offseason and Montas should be a player who grabs their attention. We recently discussed why they also should be considering Chris Bassitt, too. Perhaps the Bay Bridge neighbors could strike a mega deal between each other. The Giants would get much-needed pitching, while the A's would gain money that they desperately need.
New York Mets: The New York Mets are looking to make big changes this offseason. After a very disappointing 77-85 record in 2021, it wouldn't hurt to upgrade their pitching rotation. Montas would give them another very good starter, which would definitely help their chances of returning to the postseason, at least in theory.
Detroit Tigers: The Tigers are expected to be aggressive this winter, so why shouldn't they at least consider adding another pitcher like Montas? During the 2021 season, they had a 4.32 team ERA. That would be good for 17th in the league, which is roughly average. However, if they want to take that next step and be a playoff team in 2022, upgrading their rotation would be a good start for them.
