3 Potential Landing Spots For SP Sean Manaea
With the Oakland Athletics openly shopping their veterans, Sean Manaea has become one of the most interesting names in the rumor mill. He's developed into a very good pitcher and will have plenty of interest around the league because of it. In 32 games last season with the A's, he had an 11-10 record, 3.91 ERA and a career-high 194 strikeouts. For the 2022 campaign, he is set to make $10.2 million. However, at season's end, he will be eligible for unrestricted free agency.
Here are three teams who should be calling the A's about him.
Boston Red Sox: Although the Red Sox ended up having a nice playoff run, it's clear that they would benefit from adding another starter. They already have decided to move on from Garrett Richards and Martin Perez, while Eduardo Rodriguez is a free agent, too. Manaea could be an excellent addition for them, as he could fill in smoothly as their second or third starter. Having a trio of Nathan Eovaldi, Chris Sale and Manaea would make them look far more intimidating.
Chicago Cubs: The Chicago Cubs finished the 2021 season with a 71-91 record. So yes, they underachieved mightily. However, that doesn't automatically mean they will just give up on next season, too. The Cubs have plenty of money to work with this winter and should consider trading for the 29-year-old. Pitching was a major weak point for them this season and the truth is made apparent by their team 4.87 ERA. If they want to turn this ship around, adding a pitcher like Manaea would be a good start.
Washington Nationals: The Washington Nationals didn't have a much better team ERA (4.82) than the Cubs this season. Therefore, it would not be surprising at all to see them aim to fix this. Furthermore, due to the fact that they have a franchise talent in Juan Soto, now is the time to be aggressive. Manaea would quickly become one of their best pitchers if a move were to occur.
