3 Potential Landing Spots For Brandon Belt
What a perfect time to be in line for a new contract! Brandon Belt just had the best year of his entire career this season with the San Francisco Giants. In just 97 games, he set a career-high with 29 home runs, while also adding 59 RBIs and a .274 batting average. After a season like this, he absolutely should get himself a very good contract this off-season.
Here are three teams where the veteran first baseman could end up.
San Francisco Giants: It's already been noted that the Giants want to keep Brandon Belt around. I mean, how could they not? He's spent his entire career there and is coming off of a magnificent campaign. However, with this, we will have to wait and see if another team will be able to lure him away with a big contract offer. Still, he could elect to take a hometown discount, as he has been a Giant for 11 years. He also is quite open to staying, too.
New York Yankees: If the Yankees end up losing Anthony Rizzo, it would not be surprising to see them pursue Belt if he doesn't reach a new deal with the Giants. The Yankees can't afford to put out a weaker roster than this season's, as they of course always have the expectation of winning the World Series. On a short-term deal, Belt could be a good option for them if they strike out on other players.
Atlanta Braves: Like the Yankees, the Braves also have a first baseman with an expiring contract - Freddie Freeman. He is coming off of an MVP caliber season, so yes, he will be their biggest priority until he is either signed or signs elsewhere. If the latter unfortunately occurs, don't be surprised to see Atlanta pursue Belt. He obviously isn't a star like Freeman, but he is one of the top first basemen on the market.
