2 Teams Have Become Favorites to Sign Justin Verlander
The Justin Verlander sweepstakes continue as the veteran starter has heard from a number of clubs. While he appears as fresh as ever considering his age, his next contract is likely a one or two year deal. Sounds like it could be coming soon and two teams have become favorites.
According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, Verlander is expected to sign with a 'larger market' and the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers have become the front runners. Some around baseball feel like this is already a done deal and Verlander will sign with the Yankees.
Verlander did not pitch in the 2021 season as he's recovering from Tommy John Surgery. However, he did host a throwing session a couple of weeks back where a number of teams attended and he looked sharp. The veteran righty gassed it up and appeared to not lose any velocity on his fastball while his secondary pitches looked effective. He's currently enjoying himself while his agent does all the work.

The Dodgers have some big shoes to fill as they feel they are going to lose both Clayton Kershaw and Max Scherzer this offseason. The team has been busy signing Andrew Heaney and are reportedly in a number of other arms. Verlander at this point appears to be leaving the Dodgers at the alter.
Here's More From Passan on Verlander's Future:
