St. Louis Cardinals Fire Manager
The St. Louis Cardinals have shockingly fired manager Mike Shildt. According to Cardinals president John Mozeliak, there were "philosophical differences" between Shildt and the team's front office.
Shildt did quite well with the Cardinals over his three seasons as manager. In total, he had a 252-199 record in the position and made the playoffs in each of his three seasons. In 2019, he led the Cardinals to the NLCS before they lost to the Nationals. He also won the NL Manager of the Year award, too. The Cardinals would lose to the Padres in the Wild Card series in 2020 and then against the Dodgers this postseason in the Wild Card game.Cardinals president John Mozeliak said he fired manager Mike Shildt earlier today due to a “philosophical difference” in the direction of the team. “We decided internally it would be best to separate now,” he said, even though Shildt had one year left on his contract.

Shildt will likely be able to land himself a new home rather quickly due to his success with the Cardinals. It's a shame that he wasn't able to stick around longer, but it seems that it's the best move for both parties since they had different viewpoints for the direction of the franchise.
