San Diego Padres Hire New Manager
The San Diego Padres have hired Bob Melvin to be their new manager. It has been reported that it is a three-year contract.
The team fired Jayce Tingler from the position earlier this month due to the team's very disappointing season. Heading into the campaign, many fans expected them to be potential contenders. Instead, they sported a 79-83 record. Now, Melvin will try to get them back on track.Bob Melvin will be the new manager of the San Diego Padres, source confirms to ESPN. He’s signing a three-year deal and will leave Oakland, as @AJCassavell reported. Melvin is regarded as one of the best managers in baseball, and he’s heading to manage Fernando Tatis Jr and more.

This is a very surprising development, as the Oakland Athletics picked up his contract option for the 2022 season. Yet, they decided to let him interview with San Diego and he decided to move on. Melvin was the manager of the A's since the 2011 season, so this is a significant loss for them.
During his time with the A's, Melvin was named the Manager of the Year in 2012 and 2018. His overall record with the team was 853-764. Over his entire career, he currently sports a 1,346-1,272 record. Therefore, he comes with a plethora of overall experience.
