Report: San Diego Padres Interested In Star Pitcher

After a winter of spending, the San Diego Padres disappointedly ended the 2021 season with a 79-83 record. The talent on their roster was there, but the results just did not come. With this, the Padres are once again expected to be active during the off-season. According to Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune, the team is viewing pitcher Marcus Stroman as a potential target.

Most teams looking to improve their rotation and are open to spending will likely be going after Stroman. He's an All-Star pitcher and among the best available via free agency this winter. In 33 games this season with the New York Mets, he had a 10-13 record and 3.02 ERA. This came after he opted out of the 2020 season as well.

We recently reported that Stroman is open to a reunion with the Toronto Blue Jays, so him joining the Padres is certainly not a slam dunk. However, that's not to say that San Diego cannot convince him to sign there. Even after their rough season, they have so many spectacular players on their roster, including Manny Machado, Blake Snell and Fernando Tatis Jr.

Nonetheless, don't be surprised to see San Diego pursue Stroman. He would instantly make their rotation far better.
