Red Sox JD Martinez Suffers Bizarre Injury; Questionable for AL Wild Card Game
Boston Red Sox designated hitter JD Martinez sprained his ankle in the most bizarre way, and is now questionable for Tuesday's Wild Card game against the New York Yankees.
JD Martinez got hurt tripping over the second base bag as he ran out to RF and now he’s out of the game.

You just can’t make this up. #RedSox | #DirtyWater
JD Martinez just actually hurt himself running out to his position. No, really, a DH playing the outfield more than 1 day in a row isn't dangerous.

Yes, Martinez has been primarily a DH for several years, but he was forced to play the outfield for the Red Sox' critical season-ending series in a National League park in Washington.
Clearly not very familiar anymore with running out to field a position, Martinez was simply trotting out to right field to start the bottom of the 5th inning when he tripped over second base and rolled his ankle. He temporarily convinced trainers he was fine to stay in the game, but was eventually pinch-hit for in the 6th inning.
Losing Martinez, and his .867 OPS with 28 home runs and 99 RBIs, could be costly for the Red Sox in a one-game winner-take-all. But hey, they've still got Rafael Devers...
