3 Teams Who Should Take A Chance On Michael Conforto
Michael Conforto is another very interesting name who has an expired contract. The 28-year-old is likely to sign a prove-it type of contract this off-season though, as he is coming off of a down year. In 125 games, he had 14 home runs, 55 RBIs and a .232 batting average. He just wasn't the same threat at the plate that baseball fans know him as being. However, the 2022 season will offer him a clean slate, no matter where he ends up playing.
Here are three teams where he could end up going.
Seattle Mariners: Come on Seattle - bring the kid back home! Conforto is a Washington native who could be just what the Mariners need. The Mariners are known for having plenty of strong right-handed batters in their lineup and could use a left-handed one who provides a bit of pop. What also could intrigue Seattle is the fact that they could ink him to a one-year deal, rather than long-term. He's a bounce back candidate who could be a fantastic short-term option.
Cincinnati Reds: With it being extremely likely that Nick Castellanos will opt out of his current contract with the Reds, they could look at Conforto. It's well-known that the Reds will still be trying to bring Castellanos back, but if money lures him elsewhere, one has to assume they'd at least consider Conforto. He may not have had a season like Castellanos this season, but he has the potential to provide similar power numbers if he rebounds. Keep in mind, he did have 33 home runs just in 2019.
New York Mets: Even though Conforto had a down year with the Mets, it doesn't feel right to take them out of the sweepstakes entirely. He's played seven years with the organization and clearly has a deep love for the city. Given the fact that he had a down year, it's unlikely that he would receive a big extension from them. However, if he does in fact hit free agency, it wouldn't be shocking to hear that the Mets would still want him back.
