3 Potential Destinations For 41-Year-Old Nelson Cruz
In need of a DH? Nelson Cruz is set to become a free agent yet again and is the perfect player for the role. Even at 41 years old, he still is quite effective at the plate. In 140 games between the Minnesota Twins and Tampa Bay Rays, he had 32 home runs, 86 RBIs and a .265 batting average. Father Time just isn't hitting the veteran yet and he should have no trouble finding another home.
Here are three teams who should be in play.
Oakland A's: The Oakland A's were interested in Nelson Cruz at the trade deadline, so it wouldn't be surprising to see them explore this again. The A's need more offense in their lineup and Cruz would be a great option for them to get it. He would be a notable upgrade over Khris Davis and Mitch Moreland, who each spent time as the team's DH this season.
Seattle Mariners: Could the Seattle Mariners be open to a reunion with Cruz? They took a huge step forward this season, as they sported a 90-72 record and just missed out of the playoffs. However, they exceeded initial expectations and with that, they are expected to be aggressive this winter. Cruz was marvelous during his time with Seattle. In 606 games, he had 163 home runs, 414 RBIs and a .284 batting average.
Toronto Blue Jays: Like the Mariners, the Blue Jays just missed out of the playoffs. They certainly were still a good team, as they had a 91-71 record. They have plenty of decisions to make with their expiring contracts, but it would not be surprising to see them upgrade their DH. This and their past interest in him makes them seem like players in the Nelson Cruz sweepstakes.
