Shohei Ohtani May Not Pitch Again This Season
Shohei Ohtani is dealing with arm soreness and may not pitch again this season, according to manager Joe Maddon. Even if the team decides to go through with this, he will still be utilized as their DH, though.
With the Angels ten games out of a Wild Card spot, it may be best to play it safe with Ohtani at this juncture. Since coming to the MLB, he pitched more than any other season this go-around. In 21 starts, he has a solid 9-2 record and 3.36 ERA. Keep in mind, he only pitched two times during the 2020 season and didn't at all in 2019.
At the plate, Ohtani has had himself a spectacular season, too. In 139 games, he has 44 home runs, 94 RBIs and a .256 average. His home run and RBI total crush his previous career-highs.
Due to all of the success Ohtani has had at both the plate and on the mound, he is the frontrunner in the AL MVP sace. It will be exciting to see what he's capable of doing in the future. Yet, for now, he should rest that arm up.
