San Diego Padres Sign Vince Velasquez
The San Diego Padres have signed pitcher Vince Velasquez to a minor-league deal. He will join their 28-man roster this weekend and is expected to make his first start for the team against the St. Louis Cardinals.
In 21 games this season with the Philadelphia Phillies, Velasquez had a 3-6 record and 5.95 ERA. He was designated for assignment by the team over the weekend, but thankfully was able to find a new home very quickly. The #Padres signed RHP Vince Velasquez to a minor league contract today.

He is expected to be added to the Padres active 28-man roster this weekend in St. Louis and make a start during the three-game series against the Cardinals.
Velasquez should provide the Padres with a bit more depth in their rotation. His best year with the Phillies came during the 2016 season when he sported an 8-6 record and 4.12 ERA. However, he has not come close to that level over these last three seasons.
The Padres currently have a 75-70 record, which is good for third place in the NL West. Once seen as a potential lock for the playoffs, they have had their struggles and now are one game behind the St. Louis Cardinals for the final Wild Card spot.
Here's to hoping Velasquez can find his previous form and be effective for them.
