Red Sox Martinez Comments on His Future in Boston
J.D Martinez of the Boston Red Sox has a player option after this season for $19.35 million. At this point, it certainly sounds like Martinez is undecided will a chance he declines his option.
The 2022 season is the final year on Martinez' current contract and he recently spoke to the media in Boston regarding his future with the team:
I'm right in the middle. It's a balancing line, and I'm right in the middle. I haven't made a decision. I don't worry about that stuff, but right now I'm right in the middle
A lot of Martinez's decision making may be coming down to how the Red Sox fare during to end this season. The team is in a battle for the Wild Card spot with the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays and if they fall out of the postseason, Martinez could look elsewhere next season.
The veteran slugger is enjoying a fine season, hitting .285 with 27 HR and 96RBI. He's been lights out for the Red Sox since signing a massive contract in 2018 and this will certainly be a story line we follow as this season concludes.
