It's been an up and down season for the hurler as he's heading to San Diego with a record of 5-11 and a 6.88 ERA in 20 starts. Certainly not his best season, but with a change of scenery, anything can happen at this point.
San Diego is in a playoff chase for a wildcard position and after missing out on a couple of big names from the Washington Nationals, have decided a low-risk high-reward type of add like Arrieta could go a long way for the team down the stretch. Arrieta has shown in the past he's capable of being a dominant starter, but those days are long gone. Now it's about pitching to contact and changing speeds that's going to keep hitters off balance. The Padres hope he can find his game and contribute to their playoff run.
