NY Mets' Owner Steve Cohen Calls Out Mets Hitters

It was inevitable. In the middle of a disastrous slide that has cost them 1st place in the NL East, the New York Mets have been riddled with reports of impatience among the front office ranks. One week ago, the team's general manager, Zach Scott, called out the team, and now owner Steve Cohen has attacked the offense in particular, sending out this tweet after their 5th straight loss Tuesday night:

"It’s hard to understand how professional hitters can be this unproductive... The slugging and OPS numbers don’t lie," tweeted Cohen.

So what are some of those numbers? Over the last 13 games, the team is collectively batting .232, with an OPS of .656. Those rank 24th and 26th in baseball, respectively.

Some other numbers that Cohen surely is not pleased about: The Mets are 5-14 in their last 19 games, dropping them from a nice little lead atop the division, to 3rd place, 4.5 games off the pace now set by the Atlanta Braves.

First baseman Pete Alonso, however, has not lost faith in his team, and continues to have an upbeat attitude:

"Our attitude, our process, is excellent... We fight every single day, despite the current situation and we're trying to change it, every single day."

How many more days Cohen can wait for some actual results, remains to be seen.
