Detroit Tigers Make Deal With Colorado Rockies

The Detroit Tigers have acquired catcher Dustin Garneau from the Colorado Rockies. Colorado will receive cash considerations from the deal.

Due to the fact that Garneau has spent the entirety of this season in the minors, the Rockies were allowed to trade him even with the deadline passed. In 32 games in the minors between three clubs this season, he hit five home runs and had 17 RBIs. With that, he also had a .219 batting average.

He certainly did not take the minors by storm, but even with that, the Tigers are already bringing Garneau up to the big-league club. Rookie outfielder Jacob Robson will be heading back to the Triple-A as a result of this. They also moved fellow catcher Jake Rodgers to the 60-day injured list.

Garneau actually started the season in the Tigers' system, but was cut last month before signing with the Rockies. Now, the 34-year-old catcher will be allowed to have a fresh start with Detroit and will get his first taste of MLB action since last season. That's honestly a good accomplishment for him.

Over six MLB seasons, Garneau has played in 140 total games with the Colorado Rockies (previously between 2015-2017), Oakland A's, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Angels and Houston Astros. He is simply a depth player, but it is never a bad thing to add a catcher.

With the Astros last season, he had one home run, four RBIs and a .158 batting average in 17 games.

At this said time, the Tigers have a 58-63 record. Although the playoffs are a longshot for them, it will be good for Garneau just to get a little more MLB time on his resume.
