Yankees Sign 1st Round Pick Sweeney
The New York Yankees made Trey Sweeney the No. 20 pick overall in the MLB Draft last week, and today have signed him to a $3 million dollar deal.
The Eastern Illinois U. shortstop is excited to put on the pinstripes and get his Yankees career underway. In fact, he's so excited to be a Yankee, that they were able to get him to sign for $242,900 under the #20 slot's value.
Still seems unreal but I’m a Yankee! So blessed and thankful! Lets go @Yankees

According to reports, Sweeney is expected to report to Tampa immediately and begin his pro career in Rookie ball. But the 21-year-old has much bigger plans in the near future, saying he wants to follow in the footsteps of his Yankees hero, Derek Jeter:
“There’s nobody like the captain, said Sweeney. "It’s definitely some big shoes to fill, but it’s my honor to try to do that in any way I can and try to follow in his footsteps and be a great Yankee.”
